Academically More Able

Across the student population at Woodside High School we have a significant number of students who have been identified as being Academically More Able (AMA), previously known as Gifted and Talented. These students are offered and participate in a range of educational and cultural enrichment activities; this is in addition to the embedding of activities in all of our schemes of work to stretch, develop and challenge all of our students.

Some of the activities on offer this year at Woodside include:

  • A range of Maths Challenges
  • Maths Enrichment Days at Highgate School
  • ‘The Brilliant Club’: an externally run programme which exposes students to University life and the opportunity of working with a PhD student to produce assignments.
  • Various Sports clubs and competitions including Step Into Dance
  • The Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Opportunities to make connections with students in France and Spain through our MFL Department
  • Online School Newspaper: student run
  • The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: our school drama performance  
  • Various opportunities in music; including instrumental lessons, vocal coaching, the Woodside High Choir and the School Band  
  • The Debating Society which takes part in regular competitions organised by The Oxford Union, The English Speaking Union and Debate Mate
  • Public Speaking opportunities, including the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge
  • University Visits and the IntoUniversity Project
  • First Story Creative Writing Projects
  • AMA Science Project
  • Book Club
  • Mock Magistrate Trial
  • The Saturday Club; an arts project run by the University of Arts London and Central St Martins’ College
  • Lunchtime Lecture Series which introduces students to professionals in a diverse range of careers
