School Council at Houses of Parliament

Woodside High’s Student Council were given the rare opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament on
Tuesday this week.  The students had the honour of visiting both the chambers of the House of Commons and the House of Lords in the magnificent palace of Westminster.

Following the tour, the students took part in a debating workshop where they got a first-hand experience of how debating in Parliament works.  The workshop coordinator marvelled at how articulate and confident the students at Woodside are.

The day ended on a high when Catherine West, the Member of Parliament for Wood Green and Hornsey, popped in for a surprise visit.   The students were given the opportunity to question Ms West about her role in Parliament; the students were particularly eager to learn how she represents the people of Wood Green when she takes parts in debates in the House of Commons.

This was a fantastic opportunity enjoyed by all!
